Workplace investigations are challenging in any setting, but they become especially difficult when the workplace is already divided, distrustful, and accustomed to conflict. In high-conflict environments, employees may have formed factions, prior complaints may remain unresolved, and leaders may be under pressure to do something, even if they are not sure what to do. All of that can blur the scope of the investigation and complicate the investigator’s role. These dynamics can affect what people report, how they describe events, who is identified as a relevant party, and how the investigator’s neutrality is perceived. Through a practical case study, this program will explore how investigators can recognize when the environment has become relevant to the investigation itself, and what they can do to manage that environment while staying true to their role and responsibilities.

When you receive a report of wrongdoing, you want to act fast and gather as many details as possible to resolve the issue quickly. But what if you can’t follow up with the reporter? In this session, we’ll discuss one of the foundations of dealing with whistleblower reports: what to do if the anonymous report doesn’t give you a full picture of the incident. In addition, our speakers will explain how to use new technologies and strategies to augment the initial anonymous complaint.

The program will provide guidance to investigators who conduct workplace investigations in educational institutions. The webinar will identify when the requirements of Title IX are triggered, help investigators navigate the intersection of the Title IX process and typical HR investigation processes in unionized and non-unionized environments, and provide practical tips for investigating and resolving Title IX workplace complaints as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Workplace investigations can escalate quickly when alleged misconduct raises potential criminal implications. This webinar will explore the high-stakes moments where investigations intersect with criminal law—such as situations involving violence, harassment, theft, fraud, or threats.

Designed for investigators, HR leaders, and practitioners, Scene of the Crime provides practical guidance on identifying criminal red flags, preserving evidence, protecting employee rights, and determining when (and how) to involve counsel or law enforcement. Drawing on real-world experience as a former prosecutor and current employment defense attorney, the presenter will walk through common pitfalls, best practices, and decision-making frameworks that help investigators and HR professionals respond decisively while minimizing legal risk to the organization.

As awareness of neurodiversity grows, so does the responsibility to ensure that workplace practices are inclusive and equitable for those who process, communicate and recall information in different ways. For neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD, autism and dyslexia, these differences can significantly impact how they experience workplace investigations.

With up to 1 in 5 people identifying as neurodivergent, it is important for organizational leaders to understand how neurodivergence can influence traditional investigative methods, which often rely on assumptions about communication, behavior and memory. This training explains how these assumptions can unintentionally disadvantage neurodivergent individuals and create flawed outcomes.

The Institute consists of four days of training, including +10 hours of small group sessions with our experienced faculty, and a series of tests.
