AAWI Auckland Launch Report
Share |

On the evening of Wednesday 20 September 2018 AAWI launched the Auckland Local Circle. The evening was kindly hosted by the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern) which has several in-house lawyers who wish to be involved in workplace investigations and/or are consulted by members (who tend to be small to medium-sized employers). The attendees were a mixture of lawyers (predominantly) with some private investigators, and HR people. And impressive number of 35 people from the northern region, principally from Auckland, have expressed interest in future events.

Auckland Circle Convener, Graeme Colgan, spoke briefly about AWI, AAWI, the recent Kingscliff conference and about what involvement with an AAWI Circle would likely include. He encouraged people present to look to attending the next annual AAWI conference based on his enthusiasm for the recent one. Graeme recommended people becoming members of AWI, noting he thought a good number will join. He mentioned people are already signing up to the 2019 training courses in the US.

The Auckland Circle is getting expressions of interest to form a small committee to arrange future Auckland events which Graeme hopes will be built around different speakers, hopefully occurring perhaps 3-4 times a year.

There was an enquiry about people visiting other Circle meetings, eg an Aucklander in Melbourne at the same time as there is a Melbourne meeting. Graeme highlighted that anyone AAWI member visiting New Zealand would be welcome to join an Auckland or Wellington Circle.

The launch of the Auckland Circle was a successful event and plans are already underway for the next Circle Meeting!
