AWI is committed to equal opportunity and equal access for all.
There has been a good deal of news out of Texas regarding what has been termed the “Bathroom Bills,” which would restrict public restroom access for transgender people.
AWI is committed to equal opportunity and equal access for all. We wanted to inform you of the steps we have taken regarding this.
In February 2017, AWI signed on as a supporter of Texas Competes, a group organizing the Texas business community and others to “make the economic and business case for [the] fair treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.” AWI has signed the Texas Competes Pledge (http://texascompetes.org/pledge/), and our support is listed on their website (http://texascompetes.org/supporters/#businesses). We have been in continual communication with Texas Competes, and are monitoring developments on a daily basis.
While the bill has not passed as of this writing, the Governor called a special session of the legislature to consider it. While there continues to be active opposition to the bill from the business community and Texas Competes, the bill may become law very soon.
AWI’s Training Institute for Workplace Investigators is scheduled for Austin, Texas, from September 11 to 15. As is typical for events like this, AWI signed a binding contract with the hotel for the Austin Institute several years ago, and cannot cancel that contract at this time.
AWI’s commitment to anti-discrimination remains strong. AWI will strongly consider not holding further events in any state that passes legislation that is contrary to our commitment to equal opportunity and equal access.
